 2018 Preview

Tuscaloosa County finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Tuscaloosa County finished eighth in Class 7A region three with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The defense allowed a team record 350 points last season.

Tuscaloosa County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Wildcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 15.7 points a game.

The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Tuscaloosa County has gone a combined 39-48. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 7A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Tuscaloosa County has managed to compile a record of 170-107. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 7A and 82nd in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats are led by head coach John Holladay who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Tuscaloosa County. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Holladay.

Coach Holladay's overall record as a head football coach in nineteen season stands at 137-79 (63.4%). His 137 wins rank 33rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Holladay's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times and won three region championships.

The Tuscaloosa County Wildcats will play in Class 7A region three during the 2018 season. The Wildcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 72-34 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 7A and 5th in the AHSAA.

Region three will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. It will be an uphill battle for the Wildcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. After just 2 wins last year, Tuscaloosa County will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Wildcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Demopolis on Friday, August 24 at Wildcat Field. Last year the Demopolis Tigers finished with an overall record of 11-3 and in first place in Class 5A region three. The Tigers lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to St. Pauls by a score of 20-19.

Tuscaloosa County and Demopolis have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 10-4-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 1989 with Tuscaloosa County winning by a score of 42-0.
